Hot engine bleed air will flow through the system and activate an automatic temperature controller.3Windshield

When HI is selected, the automatic temperature controller maintains windshield bleed air temperature at 138 5C.

When LOW is selected, the controller maintains the temperature at 127 5C

The controller receives inputs from the temperature setting (HI or LOW) and two sensors in the in the bleed air duct.

Based on these inputs, the controller operates the motorized control valve to adjust the amount of cool ram air entering the heat exchanger.

Heat is extracted from the bleed air and is exhausted overboard through a vent on the left side of the fuselage, forward of the tail compartment access door.

The cooled bleed air is then directed onto the windshield through a series of nozzles.4Windshield

Should electrical power fail, the windshield bleed air solenoid valve will fail open. This ensures bleed air is supplied to the windshield bleed air valves.

If the manual valves are opened, the noise level will increase as bleed air flows through the nozzles to the windshield.

Should an electrical failure occur, the automatic temperature control and the overheat warning will be inoperative.

As such, the manual valves are kept closed and are only opened when bleed air to the windshield is required.

This procedure protects the windshield from excessive bleed air temperature should a power failure occur or the bleed air solenoid valve fails open.5Windshield

A pressure switch illuminates the W/S AIR O'HEAT annunciator should duct pressure exceed 5 psi with the windshield bleed air switch in OFF.

In this case, the pilot should verify the manual windshield bleed air valves are in the OFF position.

This is not an overpressure condition. The pressure switch will detect a less than fully closed valve when the W/S BLEED switch is in OFF.Windshield

When the temperature exceeds 146C, an overtemperature sensor automatically energizes the electric solenoid bleed air shutoff valve closed and illuminates the W/S AIR O'HEAT annunciator.

This condition should not occur unless a sustained high-power, low-airspeed conditioned is maintained or a system malfunction occurs.

The overtemperature sensor will reset once the system cools. The windshield bleed air solenoid valve will open and the W/S AIR O'HEAT light will extinguish.

If the overheat light illuminates, the pilot should protect the windshield by partially closing the windshield bleed air valves to reduce airflow. 7Windshield

The airplane is normally flown with the manual valves closed.

The valves are opened only when the airplane is operating in conditions requiring windshield bleed air.

This protects the windshield from possible damage from hot bleed air should an electrical power failure occur and the windshield bleed air solenoid valve fails in the open position.8Windshield

The windshield rain removal system uses bleed air from the windshield anti-ice system.

Rain doors are opened to deflect air onto each windshield.

The doors are manually operated by pulling the PULL RAIN handle located under the windshield bleed air knobs.9Windshield

Windshield rain removal is initated by pulling out the PULL RAIN handle, rotating the windshield bleed air knobs to MAX and placing the W/S BLEED switch in LOW.

Placing the switch in LOW should be last since it is difficult to open the rain doors when bleed air is already flowing out of the nozzles.

To increase airflow to the windshield during periods of low power settings, rotate the copilot's windshield bleed air knob to OFF. This increases the flow to the pilot's windshield.

The use of an approved rain repellent on the windshield will greatly enchance the effectiveness of the rain removal system.10Windshield

When windshield anti-icing is required, the manual windshield bleed air valves are opened and the windshield bleed air switch is placed in HI or LOW.

If the OAT is warmer than
-18C, the switch is placed in LOW.

If the OAT is -18C or below, the switch is placed in HI.

Normal system operation is indicated by an increase in air noise as the bleed air discharges from the nozzles.11Windshield

An alcohol backup system is provided for the pilot's windshield in case the bleed air system fails.

The alcohol system includes a reservoir and an electric pump.

The alcohol system is intended for use when the normal windshield bleed air anti-ice sytsem has failed.

The reservoir has a capacity of 2 quarts, which provides 10 minutes of continuous use.

The reservoir is filled with isopropyl alcohol based fluid (TT-I-735).

Electrical power for the alcohol system is supplied through the W/S ALCOHOL circuit breaker located on the left circuit breaker panel.stopmnu_level0box1box2box3box4box5box66box7box8box9box10box11bx1bx1Obx2O	R
